Bright lights, glamourous runway looks and the beautiful models are what we see when we’re watching the incredible shows at the Adelaide Fashion Festival. But none of it would be possible without a creative team working tirelessly behind the scenes. 2017 sees the return of Clip Joint Salons as the official hair partner for the festival and we’re sure there will be some epic hair looks.
We chat to the Clip Joint stylist, Eliza Collier, about her work with AFF in the lead up to the actual event, how it feels to work with such a great team of local creatives and she even gives us some tips on how to look after our hair this season.
Hey Eliza! can you tell us a little more about yourself and your background in hairdressing?
I was lucky enough to start my career as an apprentice with Clip Joint Salons over 7 years ago and I’ve never looked back! I found my passion in styling while working at the Burnside Village salon, under the guidance of Clip Joint Salons Creative Director Atilio Dusa. The hairdresser sponsorship with Adelaide Fashion Festival and Clip Joint Salons has been a big career highlight. It’s such a great opportunity to work with a creative bunch and work as Atilio’s right hand.
You’ve been working on some pretty cool things with the Adelaide Fashion Festival, can you tell us more about the work you’ve been doing for them?
So far this years the lead up to AFF has been really hectic but so much fun. Over the past few weeks I have worked on various photoshoots and social events with designers involved in this year’s festival. Many shoots require hair and makeup at our Rundle Street Salon and then onsite touch-ups with the model, photographer and stylist. A few location highlights have been the new Realm building, East End, the beautiful grounds of Marybank in Rostrevor and the new Mercedes-Benz Unley show room celebrating Denim Iniquity’s 35 years in Fashion.
You’re creating original and creative work for both your work with AFF and at Clip Joint Salons, where is your inspiration coming from this season?
We do a lot of collaborating with the stylists and the designers for every look. Hair enhances the final look of the runway and we love making this happen. This year I feel like there is a real relaxed vibe with the hair; an “I woke up like this” feel. I love this because it’s very luxe and polished hair with feminine contoured movement. This can inspire the next generation of women who are time poor but still have that street style look of effortless elegance.
You’ll be working BTS again during AFF as well, what’s the most exciting part of working behind such a great event and being a part of a great team of creatives?
Where do I start? BTS for us is big but it makes it so much enjoyable to be working with such amazing, hard working and an inspiring team. I couldn’t say there was just one exciting thing about working on the AFF, every experience is different and amazing and it inspires me to keep doing what I am doing. We work hard to make the show dreams come true.
What are some shows that you’re excited for this AFF?
PAOLO SEBASTIAN! This is the show to see even if you’re someone that isn’t a fashion freak – the show is a true masterpiece. I am excited to see the new Disney Once Upon a Dream collection! I know in the future I will look back and say I had the honour working creatively with Paul Vasileff.
Can you give our readers some tips to keep their hair healthy and luscious this Spring?
I love this time of year but hair does take a bit of knock. After winter hair is always dry and a bit limp so give your hair a bit of TLC with a moisture rich mask treatment. Treat yourself to a head massage – this stimulates the scalps blow flow and is extremely beneficial. Keep it simple with styling and use your hairs natural texture mixed with a sea salt spray like EVO’s Salty Dog or Mister Fantastic to give a bit of hold to the hair. Let it dry naturally, less is more!
Clip Joint Salons are the official hair partner for the Adelaide Fashion Festival and they return to join us at the CLIQUE Beauty Bar at Melbourne Cup at Morphettville on Tuesday, November 7.
