We’ve been fans of Hersey Vineyard for a long time but up until now we’ve only been able to enjoy their wines at restaurants, pop-ups, at the Prince Albert Hotel or if we bought to enjoy at home. Thankfully, they’ve finally opened up a little cellar door and bar in Hahndorf for us to get our fix this (and every) weekend.
The space is simple but well thought out, with wooden floors, a simple black and white colour scheme and of course, the beautiful blue bar where you’ll be able to do tastings and grab a drink. “We wanted to recreate a small Parisian wine bar feel with very personable service,” says Jono Hersey. And even though it’s brand new, they’ve nailed the vibe – Hersey’s space is welcoming and somewhere you’ll want to bring your friends.
Apart from just grabbing a drink on the weekend, the cellar door & bar will be offering international wine masterclasses weekly for those particularly interested in what goes on beyond just drinking glass of vino. “[and] we will also be working with Gill from Fall From Grace to do Wine & Spirit Education Trust training in our venue as well as numerous other educational nights,” Jono adds.
From tomorrow, the venue will be open 7 days a week, offering tastings for $10 which will be redeemable on a takeaway bottle. Hersey wines will also be available by the glass, carafe and bottle, which you can enjoy with a bar menu of olives, anchovies, Saucisson by McLaren Vale’s Les Deux Coqs, two Adelaide Hills cheeses as well as a French cheese. Their dining area is still under construction but if you sit at the bar, they will also be offering the menu from The Seasonal Garden Café next door and pizza from Gepetto’s up the road.
